It’s been a while since I’ve been this excited to share something with the world. “Love Can Burn” began as a school collaboration between Alejandro Ghersi (aka Arca) and myself in the Fall of 2009. It proved to be a collaboration I will always cherish. Alejandro’s minimalism contrasted my dense layering of sounds and together we set the goal of crafting something highly accessible and experimental - a bar I will always set for myself. Once the instrumental was fully produced we decided on bringing in an R&B vocalist. I suggested Anais, a girl who introduced herself in one of my classes as a singer with the same compelling aura seen in the video. I hadn’t heard her sing before but thought I’d trust my intuition her and approached her about the song. Anais came into the studio and delivered a stellar performance, learning the melodies and lyrics on the spot with Alejandro coaching her along.

The following summer I stopped by friend Mitch Moore’s apartment to pay a visit. We shared stories of our recent projects, his being films, mine being songs. I played him “Love Can Burn” and the next morning I got a call saying he was up all night drawing constumes and conceiving the video for “Love Can Burn”. A Kickstarter campaign followed to fund the production of the video and thanks to our supporters we can finally give you this work that we are very proud of.
